We did the Devour Food & Wine Tour in Trastevere last night with John Paul, and it was incredible. If you’re on the fence about booking a food tour, just do it.John Paul was a fantastic guide—so knowledgeable, but he delivers it all like he’s just chatting with friends over a drink. He completely brought the history of the neighborhood to life.We started out with a glass of Prosecco at Enoteca La Vite with some sautéed broccoli, sun-dried tomatoes, and fresh fava beans (which John Paul had to gently rescue me from after I started eating them with the peel still on!). From there, we got an incredible cheese-and-rice ball from the famous Supplì shop that I honestly haven’t stopped thinking about.A massive highlight was hitting up the iconic Bar San Calisto for an Aperol Spritz, where we actually got to see the legendary owner, Marcello. Then it was off to Proloco Trastevere for local red and white wines, bruschetta, and a surprisingly amazing carrot hummus. We ended the food portion at Checco er Carettiere with more house wine and two incredible family-style pastas: a perfect Cacio e Pepe and my absolute favorite, the Bombolotti all’Amatriciana. Finally, we capped the night off with the best artisanal gelato in town at Otaleg.Honestly, it felt less like a stiff tour and more like walking around Rome with a local buddy who knows all the best hidden gems. You will leave incredibly full, a little tipsy, and deeply in love with Trastevere. Ask for John Paul!
