This was a fascinating tour! All the “rich people show off shiny stuff” you see in museums and churches everywhere starts to run together after a while, but here you get a taste of how things were (are) run behind the scenes, the secret offices and cells, interrogation chambers, tribunals, and creepy hidden ways to disappear folks from the common areas of the palace. Francesca is a highly qualified tour guide. I enjoyed her contextual readings from Casanova’s own account of his time in the prison. She was very mindful of her guests’ comfort on an extremely hot day, keeping us in the shade, finding us places to rest. That said, this particular tour involves a lot of steep, narrow staircases and uneven footing. In the heat, some of the less conditioned members of the group seemed to be suffering (but we all made it!)

Children under the age of 6 are not allowed to visit the Secret Itineraries of the Doges palace, so unfortunately they cannot take this tour.

Is this tour accessible to guests with mobility impairments?

What do I need to book this tour?

You must provide the following details for every guest in your party at the time of booking: first and last name. All guests must bring ID on the day of their tour as it is required to visit the St. Mark's Basilica. Failure to bring an ID can result in the security staff refusing your entrance to the monument. Name changes are not permitted.

Does St. Mark's Basilica have a dress code?

Yes. Because it is a holy place, St. Mark's Basilica insists that both men and women wear clothing that covers their shoulders and knees. They can and will refuse entry to anyone who does not meet this standard and we can't do anything about it, so come prepared.
