Excellent
We did this tour the first day we arrived in Madrid from the US. It was great because we were exhausted and did not want to do a big sit down meal. We went to four locations and sampled tapas and beverages. Our guide (Montse) was great. She was friendly and knowledgeable about the area and food.

This total experience was a 10/10 for us. I wanted to eat at Botín because I have a longstanding interest in Hemingway’s life and writing. We booked with Devour because they offer a private tour after learning about the historic significance of this restaurant and we were extremely pleased with our experience. Our guide, Phil, was there ahead of us ready to go, extremely knowledgeable and incredibly warm and accommodating. He answered every question, explained every step of the dining experience and provided us a very nice goody bag. After conversing and making clear my interest in and lifelong study of Hemingway, we were blown away to be seated at the table Hemingway habitually chose as his own. Never dreamed we’d have that kind of attention to our personal experience and interest. The meal itself exceeded all expectations! We had wonderful fresh bread, eggs, tomato with bluefin tuna, jamón croquettes, mushrooms and of course suckling pig and lamb with roasted potato. All this was served with a wonderful Rioja Crianza, a bottle of water and a fabulous Basque style cheesecake and coffees. My wife and I both rate this experience as a 10/10. Thank you to Phil, Devour and the wonderful staff at Botín who served us with professionalism, great warmth and care.

Our guide Arantxa was great! Knowledgeable and friendly. Wish we were in Madrid longer to take one of her cooking classes! The tour itself was also wonderful. Food/drink was very good and I enjoyed learning about Madrid's history and culture as well.

Know Before You Book

Is this the best tapas tour in Madrid?
We think so—and so do the 2,000+ guests who’ve given us five stars. This is the original Madrid tapas tour that launched in 2012, and it’s still the gold standard for travelers who want to explore the city through its best tapas, taverns, and stories.
How much food and drink is included?
A full dinner’s worth! You’ll enjoy 9+ tapas and 4 drinks across 4 of the best family-run tapas bars in Madrid. Come hungry—this is a proper Spanish night out.
What kind of tapas will I try?
Expect a mix of classic Spanish and regional dishes, like garlic shrimp, grilled mushrooms, Manchego cheese, and padrón peppers. These are just examples—tastings vary based on season and availability, ensuring you get what’s freshest and most flavorful that night.
What drinks are included?
Each stop includes a traditional drink—like vermouth on tap, crisp ciders, and quality Spanish wines. If you don’t drink alcohol, no worries—there are non-alcoholic options available at every stop.
Is this a walking tour?
Yes, but it’s a gentle stroll with plenty of breaks. Along the way, you’ll explore Madrid’s historic center, including the Royal Palace, Plaza Mayor, and hidden streets in the Habsburg Quarter.
Is this tour good for solo travelers?
Definitely. Our small groups are friendly, social, and perfect for solo travelers looking to connect over great food and conversation.
Are dietary needs accommodated?
We’ll do our best. There are usually vegetarian options, but vegan, gluten-free, or allergy-specific substitutions may be limited due to the traditional nature of the tapas. Let us know in advance and we’ll do what we can.
Do I need to speak Spanish?
Not at all. Your expert local guide is fluent in English and Spanish and will handle all communication, so you can just relax and enjoy the experience.
