Chic and cosmopolitan San Sebastian is a great place to enjoy some seriously incredible wine.
There are lots of great wine bars in San Sebastian, but if you’re looking for the absolute best, we’ve got you covered. Here are our favorite places in the city to enjoy a nice glass of wine (or two!) in the company of locals. Salud!
1. Vinoteca Bernardina
Vinoteca Bernardina is a bit of a hike from the Old Town and city center. However, their extensive wine menu makes the trek worth it. Their extensive wine list spotlights Spanish wines, especially local vinos from the Basque Country. However, they also offer several fabulous international wines from Italy, France, Germany, Chile and more. If you’re hungry, they also serve simple yet perfect traditional food from the region. Sit inside the bar or outside on the lovely terrace—there’s not a bad seat in the house.

2. El Bombín
Tiny, cozy El Bombín makes up in personality and variety what it lacks in space. As one of our favorite wine bars in San Sebastian, they have a great selection of wines by the glass that changes monthly. Their friendly servers are more than happy to recommend one that will suit your tastes. Sit out on the terrace to enjoy lovely views of the cathedral while you enjoy your wine along with some of their equally delicious pintxos.

3. Vinoteca Syrah
Since opening its doors in 2010, Syrah has become one of the favorite wine bars in San Sebastian among locals. With its modern atmosphere and extensive wine list, it’s a great place to spend an evening or a laid-back afternoon. Here, you’ll fine wines that are quite out of the ordinary, making it a perfect stop for adventurous vino fans. They also offer a short yet respectable pintxos menu which changes seasonally to ensure the freshest ingredients.

4. Essencia
In addition to being an incredible wine shop, Essencia is also one of our favorite wine bars in San Sebastian! They sell more than 700 wines from all over the world, with around 70 or so available by the glass. The atmosphere is lively without being overwhelming, and the owners are more than happy to pass on their rich knowledge of wine to their customers. Stop in and try something new!

5. Ganbara
For more than 25 years, Ganbara has been more than just one of the best wine bars in San Sebastian. This family-run local standout has become an essential part of the city’s food scene. They offer an exquisite wine menu, with a focus on unique Spanish wines but with a few from nearby France as well. Enjoy one by the glass to accompany their incredible food. This is also one of our favorite places to eat in San Sebastian for vegetarians.

6. Gandarias
Popular pintxos bar Gandarias is often packed with locals and visitors alike, all enjoying their fabulous food. However, the high quality wine service here is not to be missed. Their diverse selection includes just about everything, from popular riojas to lesser-known varieties from smaller producers. They also offer a small yet remarkable selection of Andalusian sherries. This is one of the best wine bars in San Sebastian if you want to drink your way around Spain!
