Go Green With The Top Vegetarian Tapas In San Sebastian

For those of us who are vegetarians, the bars in San Sebastian can inspire a bit of pintxo envy.

Bar displays overflow with colorful pintxos and… they all have meat or fish. The struggle ends now! These are our picks for top vegetarian tapas in San Sebastian.

First, a handy bit of information: pintxos are the Basque equivalent of tapas. They’re rarely served free with a drink, though! They’re often served on a small slice of bread and are held together by a toothpick. At many pintxos bars, you simply help yourself to the pintxos buffet. When you’re done with your meal, count your toothpicks to pay the bill.

With such an influence of pork products in Spain, being vegetarian in San Sebastian may seem tricky. However, this guide to amazing vegetarian tapas in San Sebastian (and where to find them) will help simplify things.

Google maps can not find Gambara, or Calle de Don Ramón de la Cruz, 14 in San Sebastian. Could you include a map with this article to make it easier and save readers time?

Thanks for your comment Laura! Mushrooms, especially wild ones, are really important in the cuisine here, and it’s not unusual to find risotto prepared with these wild mushrooms and local Idiazábal cheese on menus across town—a great vegetarian choice in San Sebastian. If that’s not your thing though, of the 17 tapas mentioned in this guide, 11 of them are not related to mushrooms or risotto, so hopefully you can find some you enjoy!
