Here are our favorite ways to send the old year out with a bang and welcome the new with open arms!

Seville Large Group Tour
From the traditional to the modern, Seville offers an amazing variety of ways to celebrate New Year’s Eve.

Enjoy a New Year’s meal at a restaurant

Seville’s food scene is unrivaled throughout the rest of the year. With that being said, just imagine the extravagant options available on December 31! There’s no better way to say adiós to the year than with a hearty meal shared in good company. This is a popular option for many families who want to celebrate by treating themselves with a classy meal out. However, it also makes a great choice for visitors from out of town spending New Year’s Eve in Seville.

Keep your eyes open for any special holiday menus at restaurants throughout the city. From a fresh, healthy meal at ConTenedor to upscale wine-and-dining with sweeping riverside views at Abades Triana, there’s no shortage of perfect culinary experiences awaiting you throughout the city. No matter where you’d like to eat, just be sure to call ahead and reserve your spot, as space is limited for these popular holiday meals.

Eat grapes in Plaza Nueva

Eating grapes may seem like a fairly inconsequential activity, but not here in Spain.

On New Year’s Eve, the tasty fruits take on special meaning as Spaniards across the country pop 12 grapes into their mouths at the stroke of midnight, one for each chime of the clock. They say that this brings good luck in the new year, so it can’t hurt to try!

On New Year’s Eve in Seville, Plaza Nueva is party (and grape-eating) central. It gets crowded, but creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere you won’t soon forget. Plus, it’s hard to beat the gorgeously decorated location set aglow with twinkling holiday lights.

It isn't New Year's Eve in Seville without plenty of free-flowing cava!
Don’t forget the cava! We love Spain’s answer to champagne.

Head to a New Year’s Eve party

Get your party on in style at one of the most exclusive events on New Year’s Eve in Seville. Throughout the city, plenty of luxury hotels host cotillones, or galas, where you can ring in the new year in the lap of luxury and party until dawn.

One of the most extravagant experiences takes place at the iconic Hotel Alfonso XIII, where you’ll be able to enjoy a sit-down meal followed by an all-night cocktail party complete with dancing.

Another more low-key yet equally excellent option is available at the EME Catedral Mercer Hotel. Their yearly New Year’s Eve festivities consist of dinner in their lovely terrace restaurant followed by a sophisticated party at their rooftop bar (one of the best in Seville). The awe-inspiring views of the cathedral and majestic Giralda tower provide the perfect backdrop for ringing in the new year.

See a flamenco show

Everyone has heard of flamenco, but you haven’t truly experienced this passionate art form until you’ve seen a show here in Seville.

Internationally known for its iconic flamenco tradition, the Andalusian capital provides a whole host of traditional flamenco shows on New Year’s Eve. Two iconic locales with special New Year’s Eve events each year are Casa de la Memoria and El Palacio Andaluz. We can’t think of a more Andalusian way to ring in New Year’s Eve in Seville!

Just to respond about the ‘glow of a beautiful fireworks display’ in Plaza Nueva’. There is none. There was a lot of people eating grapes but nobody had any idea it was midnight as the bustle of the crowd drowned out the chimes of the clock. When no fireworks appeared, people slowly shifted away. About 12.15am we could hear fireworks exploding from all over the city but none visible from the centre. Whilst everyone was in good spirits, i was dissapointed there were no fireworks to top off a good build up in a city with lots of tradition and atmosphere.

Hi Ian, thanks for your comment. Sorry to hear the lack of fireworks dampened your night somewhat. There tends to be a more central display too, but thank you for informing us that wasn´t the case this year. We´ll edit our info for future reference. Hope your overall experience in Seville was an enjoyable one!

Hi. This year there were no official fireworks either. Why is that when other cities have a display?

Hi Izzy—we’re not sure why Seville has stopped its official fireworks display on New Year’s Eve in recent years. We’ll keep looking into this and let you know if we find anything out!

an update: On New Year’s Eve 2017 as I just spoke to hotel management: dinner is not served at the rooftop bar at Eme Catredal Hotel; only drinks. A special fixed pre-paid dinner, two sittings, is available at the restaurant on the main level of hotel.

Hi, Chris. Thanks for your comment, I had actually also spoken to EME about their New Year’s celebrations yesterday too and was aware of the two phases to their evening, but I have reworded the information in the blog to make it that bit clearer. I hope you have an amazing time in Seville if you do come along for New Year’s Eve!
