You don’t have to be a professional photographer to see that the Eternal City is one of the most beautiful cities on Earth.
You’ve got your ancient palazzos, centuries-old piazzas, artistic masterpieces, Basilica domes and classic Roman rooftops all under the same pink-tinted skies. Get your cameras ready and head to these eight picture-perfect Instagrammable spots in Rome (just don’t expect to find the obvious Colosseum and Trevi Fountain on our list!).
1. Ponte Milvio
Ponte Milvio is a sprawling neighbourhood in northern Rome just over the bridge of the same name. And we’re not just talking about any bridge—it’s said that this bridge is where Roman Emperor Constantine the Great converted to Christianity in the year 312!
Step onto the bridge, look out onto the Tiber river and the Corso Francia bridge and snap your shot. This romantic spot is especially perfect if you’re traveling with your special someone!
2. Pincio Terrace
Without a doubt, this is one of the most beautiful places to watch the sunset in Rome.
Right above Piazza del Popolo, the Pincio Terrace offers stunning views of the piazza and St. Peter’s Basilica dome. It’s not exactly a secret location to take out your camera, but definitely one worth the walk.
3. The Orange Garden
Sitting on Aventine Hill, just steps away from the Circus Maximus, you’ll find this jaw-droppingly beautiful garden, officially known as the Savello Park.
Amidst towering pine trees, you’ll find a pebbly path that leads to a beautiful terrace overlooking the Eternal City. Sweeping views of everything from the Altare della Patria to Santa Maria in Cosmedin to the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica await you. No wonder it’s one of the most Instagrammable spots in Rome!

4. The Keyhole of the Knights of Malta
Just a few meters away from the Orange Garden, you’ll stumble upon one of the most unique places in Rome: the Keyhole of the Knights of Malta.
Unless you come early in the morning, don’t be shocked by the line that forms outside the door to peek into the keyhole. Something very special is in store for you: the most striking view of St. Peter’s Basilica. If you want to step beyond the door and visit the gardents themselves, you’ll have to make a reservation.
5. Fontana dell’Acqua Paola
Just a short walk from Trastevere, you’ll find the famous Acqua Paola Fountain, commonly called “Il Fontanone” by us locals.
But it’s not just the stunning fountain surrounded by vintage Fiat 500s you should take shots of. Walk towards the terrace to catch mesmerizing views of Rome.
6. Via Margutta
Ivy-clad walls, art workshops and galleries dot this picturesque side street off of Via del Babuino. Step into Via Margutta and leave the crowds of tourists behind to immerse yourself in an oasis within the historic center. Here, there’s no wrong place to snap your Instagram shot—every ivy-covered corner is magnificent.
7. Altare della Patria
Nicknamed “the Wedding Cake” or “the Typewriter,” L’Altare della Patria is a monument built in honor of King Victor Emanuel I that sits right on Piazza Venezia.
While you can take pictures of this beautiful monument from the street level, the best view is the one from the Terrazza delle Quadrighe—the terrace on top of the monument, only accessible by elevator. Once the elevator doors open, you’ll see just how worth it that €10 fee is.
8. Street art in Ostiense
Not everyone knows that Rome has some very cool street art. In fact, graffiti has even been legalized in some areas, including the famous Ostiense neighborhood.
Wander along and discover a world of beautiful street art, from JB Rock’s “Wall of Fame” to Omino71 and Mr. Klevra’s Cartoon Network murals. It’ll soon become clear why Ostiense is one of the best—and most unconventional—Instagrammable spots in Rome.
