Coffee Culture in Spain

Coffee in Spain is an interesting paradox: it is a huge part of daily life, yet there is little to be said about its quality. Sure, a café con leche can really hit the spot, but it would be a sad loss if the regular Spanish cup of joe were put up to compete with, say, its Italian counterpart. That said, you need to know where quality coffee is served when visiting Barcelona!

Satan’s Coffee Corner

The people at Satan’s Coffee Corner, a lovely little cafe in the Gothic, were some of the first in Barcelona’s recent coffee movement. Literally starting off in a tiny corner of a bike shop, they are finally proud to have their own spot, sans wifi and all. This is one of the best places to get coffee in Barcelona.

Nømad Coffee Productions

Nømad is located on one of the most charming streets in all of Barcelona! The only problem is that the street is privately owned, so it (and Nømad, of course) is closed at nights and on weekends. Make sure to get there during the week to enjoy its serenity over a perfectly concocted cup of coffee.

This is an excellent list!! Skye Coffee is a must and Nomads is just classic!! I also love Espai Joliu, a plant concept store I love to work at. You might know it as well, just thought could be a cool add-on for this list 🙂

I have been searching for Italian roast or french roast. I finally found pour over drip at Cafe Manso. They use the medium roast beans so adored by the nouveau cafe scene everywhere. I have been a coffee snob longer than most of these passionate barristas have been alive. I want high quality dark roast. I have been to Nomad- really nice people and they tried hard to help. I did by beans there but i cry every morning when i make coffee. I went to Departure around the corner and they were also very nice and understood what i was looking for. The sent me to Magnifico where I was barraged with snotty exclamations. To be fair my Spanish is not that good and they are in the heart of a tourist area. Departure Carrer de la Verge, 1 is a fantastic cafe, funky, hand crafted tables, antique industrial coffee equipment. Finally today I found 081 Italian Coffee Lab carrer d’argo, 187. Real espresso. They don’t sell beans so i will keep looking.
