What to pack for Seville: The four seasons

Spring

As the azahar blooms and more and more locals crowd onto sunny terraces for drinks, it’s clear that spring has arrived in Seville. Gorgeous, sunny weather and vibrant atmosphere aside, what makes this one of the best times to visit the city is the sheer amount of things to do! Holy Week processions snake through the city in March or April, captivating locals and visitors alike with their passion and precision. And just a few weeks later, it’s time for the iconic April Fair! Sound good? Here’s what to pack for Seville in springtime.

• Smart fair wear: Don’t let the pictures of locals at the fair intimidate you. It may seem that everyone is dressed to the nines in flamenco getups, but no need to worry about stuffing a traje de gitana into your suitcase. Simply bring some nice clothes and pick up some fashionable accessories once you arrive in town!
• Sensible, stylish shoes: Walking around Seville in springtime can wear you out as you try to see and do everything the city has to offer! And when you factor in the dusty fairgrounds, you’ll definitely want to keep your feet as clean as possible. Go for comfortable yet fashionable shoes that can easily be cleaned, and you’ll fit right in!
• A light jacket: Spring days in Seville are full of plentiful sunshine and warm temperatures. However, it can get a little bit cool at night (though not unpleasantly so), especially in the areas closest to the river. Throw a light jacket into your bag and bring it out with you in the evenings to stay warm.

Summer

There’s nothing quite like summertime in Seville! As one of the hottest cities in continental Europe, temperatures regularly reach 40°C (104°F) in July and August. However, it’s still entirely possible to enjoy Seville even in the midst of a scorching summer. If you’re ready to brave the heat, here’s what to pack for Seville as temperatures rise.

• A handheld fan: These make great souvenirs, so you can always wait to purchase a fan until you get here. However, if you want to be prepared from the moment you arrive in town, throw one into your bag while packing. Locals love using these gorgeous accessories to beat the heat!
• Plenty of sunscreen: If you plan on being out and about sightseeing in the middle of the day, we tip our hats to you. However, don’t forget to slather on plenty of sunscreen before leaving the (hopefully!) air-conditioned bliss that is your hotel. Those rays can be brutal!
• Clothes with light fabrics: They truly make a difference! Flowy sundresses and breathable shirts will help keep you comfortable while you’re exploring the city.

 

Fall

As the days get shorter and the air turns cooler, Seville takes on a more romantic air than ever. You may still be able to use some elements of your summer wardrobe in September and even into the first week of October. However, the rest of autumn cools down to a pleasantly mild temperature that’s perfect for exploring. Plus, you won’t need to worry about nearly as many tourist crowds as in the spring and summer! Here’s what to pack for Seville in the fall.

• Comfortable flats: Fall in Seville is still pleasantly warm enough that you don’t need to bundle up. The same goes for footwear. However, you won’t see locals wearing sandals too far into September! To avoid sticking out as a tourist, opt for a pair of flats that will keep you comfortable without getting uncomfortably warm.
• Shawl or scarf: Daytime temperatures in fall tend to be quite mild, but can still get a bit chilly on certain days. That being said, sometimes a jacket can get too heavy if you’re walking around sightseeing all day. Bring a lighter shawl or scarf that can easily fit into your bag instead.
• Travel backpack: Fall is the perfect time to get out and about on a day trip from Seville! Bring a backpack if you don’t have one already so you can bring what you need for a day or a quick overnight without needing to drag all your luggage along.

Winter

Winter in Seville is truly magical. You’ll be able to marvel at the Christmas lights twinkling throughout the city center as well as the elaborate nativity scenes (known as belenes) set up around town. Like fall, daytime temperatures can be quite mild, but nights do tend to get chilly. Here’s what to pack for Seville in winter–bundle up!

• Small umbrella: Snow in Seville capital is virtually nonexistent, but the cooler months do tend to see more precipitation. Throw a compact umbrella into your purse or backpack in case an unexpected rainshower hits.
• Layers, layers and more layers: The difference in temperature from day to night can be quite drastic! We recommend bringing outfits that can easily be layered for maximum comfort. Think cardigans, scarves and long-sleeved tees.
• Comfortable boots: Keep your toes toasty all day long and still look stylish! A great pair of knee-high or ankle boots will help you look fashionable while providing comfort all day long.
