Best Streets for Shopping in Lisbon
Avenida da Liberdade: Luxury Shopping in Lisbon
Paris has the Champs Elysées, New York has the Fifth Avenue, but where are all the luxury shops in Lisbon? The answer is Avenida da Liberdade. Stroll through this leafy boulevard, and you’ll stumble upon all the high-end stores like Gucci and Prada. If you don’t feel like splurging, grab a seat at one of the kiosk cafés down the avenue and do a bit of window shopping instead!
Rua Garrett: Where The Old Meets The New
What used to be the meeting point for artists and intellectuals, has become a shopping destination. At Rua Garrett, international brands and old local shops stand side by side, at least for now. Most tourists end up at the famous Café Brasileira, but there’s much more to see on this street! There’s Livraria Bertrand, the oldest running bookstore in the world, Paris em Lisboa, a home goods store open since 1888, and a flower shop named Pequeno Jardim which will inevitably end up on your Instagram.
Rua do Poço dos Negros: The Creative Corner
Poço dos Negros is more than a stop on Lisbon tram 28. Standing between the neighborhoods of Santos and Bairro Alto, this street and its surroundings are quickly turning into one of the city’s creative corners. Some of our favorite shops around this area include El Otro Tigre, +351, 27 Lisboa and Nomad Goods.
Príncipe Real: Local Designer Shops
Just take a walk through Príncipe Real, and you’re bound to find something you like! We suggest visiting Embaixada, a 19th-century palace converted into a unique shopping gallery, featuring Portuguese brands.
Rua Augusta: Traditional Shops in a Touristy Street
Yes, Rua Augusta is full of touristy restaurants and international shops, but, amidst it all, a few traditional shops remain. For shoe shopping head to Sapataria Lord, for fabrics try Londres Salão, and for bags go to Casa Canadá.
Vintage Shops in Lisbon
From clothing to furniture, there’s a wide choice of vintage shops in Lisbon! The best vintage clothing shops are A Outra Face da Lua, Ás de Espadas, Retro City Lisboa, and Heartcore. There’s also a little chain called Humana that sells affordable second-hand clothes. For furniture, we recommend Cantinho do Vintage in Marvila and the Vintage Warehouse in LX Factory.
Clothes Shopping in Lisbon
Whether you’re looking for a specific item or want to revamp your whole closet, there’s a shop in Lisbon for that! Do you need a new pair of gloves? Luvaria Ulisses has been making them by hand since the 1920s. What about a new hat? Fábrica dos Chapéus is the best place to look! As for clothing, our top favorite brands are Vintage Bazaar, Bird on a Wire and the 39 Concept Store. These cater mainly to women, so if you want menswear, we recommend Slou or UP!town Lisboa. Of course, you can always go to the main shopping centers Vasco da Gama or Colombo, but we prefer the experience of going into a smaller store and chatting with the owners.
Lisbon Bookstores
There are many bookstores in Lisbon. Some, like Livraria Bertrand, have been around for ages, while others are recent additions. If you want to eat surrounded by books visit Ler Devagar; for travel lovers, Palavra de Viajante is a must-stop, and even if you don’t have kids, the illustrated books from It’s a Book will look great on any shelf!
Coolest Shops in Lisbon
Colorful art prints, wooden toys, and handmade ceramics, the coolest shops in Lisbon have a bit of everything. If you’re looking for something to decorate your walls, head over to Galeria Malapata or Ó Galeria, our favorite art galleries in town. Loja Quer sells toys and handmade goods from local designers, and for interior design, we can’t enough of the ICON shop.
Flea Markets in Lisbon
Every Tuesday and Saturday Lisbon hosts a flea market known as Feira da Ladra. Here you can buy anything from CDs to old furniture, and second-hand clothes. While this is the city’s official flea market, there are a few others worth checking out, including the LX Market (every Sunday), Anjos70 Flea Market (first weekend of the month) and the Crafts & Design Market in the Estrela garden (first weekend of the month except January).
