With a Jewish population of almost half a million, Paris has no shortage of great kosher restaurants.
The choice can be overwhelming: traditional French, Middle Eastern and Israeli cuisines are all fighting for attention. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! Keep reading for the best kosher eats in Paris.
For the uninitiated, kosher restaurants don’t serve pork or shellfish and don’t combine meat and dairy. They are required to display a kashrut certification in the window and near the cashier. It is also worth keeping in mind that kosher restaurants close on Shabbat.
1. Kavod
One of the best known kosher eateries in Paris, Kavod is a perfect spot to enjoy a high-end kosher meal. With its elegant white interior, this restaurant right off the Champs-Elysées is the epitome of Parisian minimalist chic.
Kavod offers classic French fare and is famous for its extensive variety of meats. This is one of the few places in Paris where you can order kosher steak tartare! The lunch special is a great deal at €20 for a main course, a drink and an appetizer or dessert.
2. Le Gendre Du Boucher
Another Parisian favorite, Le Gendre du Boucher is a must whether you keep kosher or not.
Le Gendre du Boucher is a true expert in authentic French cuisine. The generous portions of exceptional meats—the restaurant even has its own butcher—will satisfy the most starved of diners. Every single menu item is bursting with flavor: filet mignon, sirloin steak, schnitzel, and roast chicken, just to name a few. Whatever you order, make sure to pair it with their famed crispy homemade French fries.
3. La Citadelle
You will immediately feel welcome at La Citadelle, a gourmet kosher restaurant with an intimate atmosphere. La Citadelle, specializing in traditional French cooking, has a huge assortment of hearty dishes that will satisfy all your meat cravings.
The appetizers based on foie gras are definitely a must-try. Go for the half-cooked foie gras with Sauternes wine or baked eggs with morel sauce and foie gras.
La Citadelle is small and can get busy, so we recommend making a reservation in advance.
4. Le Beverly
Tucked away in the historical Passage du Caire—the oldest covered passageway in Paris—Le Beverly is the ideal place for a quick kosher bite. This friendly grill restaurant serves French, Israeli and North African dishes. Shawarma, couscous, meatballs, and traditional Tunisian and Moroccan stews are only some of the many delicious options.
Le Beverly is under the supervision of Lubavitch Rabbinate of France, which entails an even stricter set of kashrut regulations, making this spot suitable for the most scrupulous of kosher diners.
5. L’As du Fallafel
Nestled into the cobblestone rue des Rosiers in the Marais, L’As du Falafel has become somewhat of a Parisian institution. It’s impossible to miss this restaurant with its bright green facade and line of hungry locals and tourists that stretches out the door and down the street (don’t worry, it moves quickly!).
Although L’As du Fallafel has other dishes on the menu, everyone visits for their legendary €6 falafel special, one of the best street food bites in Paris. Known to be the best of its kind in Paris, this delight comes piled high with eggplant, cabbage and tahini. Order some Israeli wine or beer to wash it all down.
Which of these restaurants are open in August? Specifically 18 Aug through 22 Aug.
Hi Joyve, we think that La Citadelle and L’As du Fallafel are open during the dates you’ve mentioned.
Hi, are there any restaurants open for Friday night dinner if prebooked?
