Dim sum, mezze, nikkei; These are just some of the words heard on Barcelona’s foodie scene, which is brimming with diversity more than ever these days.
Sure, you can’t go wrong with your go-to tapas bar, but just because you feel passionate about patatas bravas doesn’t mean you need to eat them at every meal. Thanks to the Catalan capital’s cosmopolitan nature, when it comes to creativity, diversity and thinking outside the box, anything goes, so check out some great exotic food in Barcelona!
Mosquito
Delicious dumplings, an array of excellent craft beers and prices that can’t be beat; there is no debate about why Mosquito is one of the most popular Asian tapas bars in the Ciutat Vella. This tiny dim sum joint does not take reservations, so get there early to put your name on the list before passing time over a drink (or two) on the bustling Carders street.

A Tu Bola
A Tu Bola swung open their doors just last year, but they are already making a splash in the gourmet street food scene that is on fire in Barcelona right now. Why? The main thing on order at this cozy Israeli kitchen are bolas – little falafel-like balls of goodness which could be an appetizer, inside a pita, a dish or a dessert. Sounds simple, right? The original combinations are anything but. We love their punchy exotic flavors and rich pairings like duck and foie. As far as unique goes there isn’t a place in the city like it, so this really is some of the best exotic food in Barcelona.

Japi Sushibar
Sushi in Barcelona is a real hit or miss. The city has its fair share of sushi bars, but there are few that get it right (something that’s always important, but especially so with sushi!). Luckily for us, Japi Sushibar joined the ranks this past September, and their innovative, creative sashimi and carefully crafted rolls are not only mouthwatering but actual works of art. Not in the mood for sushi? Go for their yakisoba or delectable fish croquettes. Desserts are made in house and include the most perfect green tea mochis and a fiery wasabi ice cream, just to name a few.
Address: Passeig de Isabel II, 2
Ziryab
Did someone say mezze? Warm, cozy and comforting, Ziryab is the place to go for an intimate meal over Middle Eastern and Catalan inspired tapas. Steaming couscous, juicy chicken brochettes, baba ganoush – we guarantee you that it will be hard to choose! That said, don’t leave without trying the bacon-wrapped dates or the Syrian pastries provided by the one and only Pastisseria Principe – they are absolutely divine!
Address: Carrer de les Ases, 16
Yakumanka
There’s a lot to love about Yakumanka, a gem of a spot where Peruvian cuisine is prepared using the finest Iberian products. With a special focus on fabulous fresh seafood (try the made-to-order ceviche!), the avant-garde dishes here will transport you on a journey to South America without having to leave Barcelona.
