Carmona
Due to its history as both a Roman stronghold and a Moor-occupied village, this town boasts some pretty spectacular architecture. From towers and palaces to fountains and gates, there’s plenty to see in Carmona. You can also find some pretty excellent tapas here – plus, it’s only half an hour away by bus!
El Rocío
Located in the province of Huelva, about 40 miles from Seville, this village has one of the most famous Romerías (religious pilgrimages) in the whole of Spain. Dominated by a disproportionately large church, Ermita de Nuestra Señora del Rocío, this place is the perfect spot for soaking up some local culture.
Sanlúcar de Barrameda
Not only famous for being the town that Christopher Columbus set sail from in 1498, Sanlúcar is also situated at the northern tip of the sherry triangle. Most importantly, they specialize in manzanilla, a fascinating variety of pale, dry wine. It’s the only place this sherry is allowed to be made! An unmissable spot for all you wine lovers out there!
Arcos de la Frontera
Yet another historic fortified town, Arcos de la Frontera sits atop a cliff overlooking the Guadelete river valley. Spend some time getting lost and discovering some of the medieval features in this small village (trust us, you will most probably get lost…) One spot to check out is Bar Alcaraván (Calle Nueva, 1), which is inside a cave!
Zahara de la Sierra
Another stunning hilltop village, Zahara de la Sierra was the perfect location for a castle due to its convenient position between Ronda and Seville. Spectacular views, rich history and easy to get to by car, Zahara de la Sierra should definitely be added to your list of best day trips from Seville!
