Pamella was an excellent guide - kept things well paced, not too fast, and plenty of time for questions and to appreciate all around you. Entertaining and knowledgeable.

This is *definitely* the way to see the Place and Saint Mark’s. You can’t help but see the crowds at each as you pass through the square (and you will, invariably, multiple times). Not having to rush is excellent, especially in Saint Mark’s where you can take moments of reflection without being pushed for time - or being physically pushed.

A Saint Mark’s highlight: sitting inside, having the lights turned off, and slowly bringing up candlelight to set off the glow of the gold mosaic ceiling. (Also, you’re permitted to take photos and video.)

When you do this - if it’s summer - bring a fan, hand fan or handheld electric fan. Much of the Doge’s Palace approaches swelteringly hot, and most rooms have very little moving air.
