This blog post was originally posted on May 21, 2015, and was updated on May 7, 2019.

After the excitement of springtime has calmed down, Seville takes on a more laid-back vibe as summer arrives.

The weather is perfect: warm and sunny, but without the scorching temperatures that usually plague Seville in summer. And everywhere you look, you’ll see locals out and about enjoying the great atmosphere—relaxing in parks, enjoying drinks on a terrace, you name it. There are so many great things to do in Seville in June—here are just a few of our favorites.

There are so many fun things to do in Seville in June—here are five of our favorites.

1. Enjoy music in the park

Outdoor concerts are a summer staple just about everywhere you go in the world, including here in Seville. That’s exactly why Nocturama is one of our favorite things to do in Seville in June—you’ve got all the fun of an al fresco music experience on a lovely summer evening, but with the added bonus of a stunning setting in one of the most beautiful parks in Seville. Established and emerging artists from just about every genre you can imagine are represented at this fun summer concert series, which takes place weekly until the end of June. There’s no better way to spend a warm evening in Seville.

2. Check out a contemporary circus

Forget the image you might have in your head of a big-top circus—Festival Circada is a circus for the next generation. Taking to the streets for more than a month as one of the most fascinating things to do in Seville in June, the event features dozens of incredibly talented performances who will show off their skills around the city. From the Alameda de Hércules to Metropol Parasol and more, some of Seville’s most iconic places will become pop-up circus rings throughout the duration of the event.

3. Wind down with a sunset drink—and a view!

Have we mentioned how much we love summer evenings here in southern Spain? It’s no question, then, why one of our favorite things to do in Seville in June is also one of the simplest: relaxing outside for some al fresco drinks with good friends. Any terrace will do, but to make the experience extra-special, head to one of the many breathtaking rooftop bars in Seville for cocktails and a stunning sunset view.

4. Relax by the river

We’ve got your evenings covered, but what options do you have for chilling out during the day? You’ll usually find us hanging out in one of the many riverside parks on the banks of the Guadalquivir. The Jardines de Chapina near the Plaza de Armas bus station are a great spot to cool off in Seville, and as a bonus, the city’s top gastro market—Mercado Lonja del Barraco—is just steps away, making it easy to stop in for drinks and tapas on your way back from the park.

5. Check out a fascinating historical exhibit

The year 2019 marks five centuries since the first circumnavigational voyage around the world, led by Ferdinand Magellan, departed Seville. A special event in one of the city’s greatest cultural treasures—the Alcázar—will commemorate this historic achievement through the exhibition “5th Centennial of the First Global Circumnavigation: Visionary Atlases & Codices from the 40 Years that Changed the World.” The Alcázar itself was an important planning space for the expedition, so it only makes sense that the fascinating collection of maps and documents—on loan from places such as the Met, the British Library, and more—be displayed here. If you’re looking to learn something new on your travels this summer, you won’t want to miss this.

Dates: May 16–June 30, 2019

Head to the Alcazar to check out one of the most fascinating things to do in Seville in June: a special exhibition commemorating the 500th anniversary of the first circumnavigation of the globe.
Seville’s Alcázar was the place where much of the plans for the circumnavigational voyage were first thought up, and 500 year later, it’s playing host to a special exhibition commemorating the journey.

Our family of four, two boys ages 8 and 12, will be in Seville in mid-June. We want to be near the sites, but in an area that is not too loud and trendy too. I’ve been told El Arenal, Alameda or in El Centro. What would you recommend? Would Triana be an option or not as close to sites? We don’t mind taking buses too if the boys are tired of walking. Thank you!
